I broke my clamp on my 16in HP. I torgued it too tight I guess. THe only option I have is to weld this back but wanted to know where can I get a replacment or a possibole manual for this particular saw?
I have taken it apart and cleaned it up but find sometimes on bigger rocks that the 16inch blade should handle the cut veers off course a little and stops when the blade pinches.
any remedies for this? and the sliding clamp?

Get a hold of Diamond Pacific www.diamondpacific.com/ - 1-800-253-2954. They bought the HP patents and are rumored to have a couple storage containers of HP parts. They might be pricey because they are the only one with HP parts but they are very helpful over the phone.

DO NOT try to weld that vise....if it does weld you will be one lucky person.....i have been that route with another members 24 inch vise....it would always break again when i pressure tested it after welding.
i will try to find pics of how i eventually fixed it....you may even be able to fix it @ home.... where did it break?....kev.

Hey JC, are you talking about the vise clamp like this: or are you talking about the one down below on the threaded rod? What exactly broke? snuffy' maybe there should be a dumpster diving day thread each week ;D Maybe if wizzy painted those brackets HP green they might work!

thats it exactly. It broke on the left side underneath. When i screwed the T handles gimmick , the clamp twisted to the left because of the smaller rock and too much pressure broke it

A couple things if that's it... first, you can still use the saw just fine. The vise dog isn't supposed to be up against the cut out part of the slide vise. I learned that the hard way, the first week I had the saw, as you can see from the cracks in mine. Where the leg (the leg closest to the vise - closest to where a rock would be) of the vise dog in the picture above is back against the slide vise is a real nono. I ordered a new one (slide vise) from Diamond Pacific, but never installed it as the one I have works just fine once I figured out what I was doing wrong. There's a thread somewhere here from a few years back when I did this In that old thread, I learned about keeping the vise dog off the slide vise and someone even posted a picture of their slide vise where that part is completely broken off but the saw still works just fine. Also, with smaller rocks, put blocks of wood in the other side of the vise from the rock so that you can't tighted the vise down all akilter. By that I mean you are clamping the smaller rock AND the wood blocks to keep the slide vise parallel with the back half.

no, it broke on the part underneath, left side that slides on the feed tray.
P D told me $181 for this part, I assume they mean the slide vise and not the whole thing. Could I be wrong?

I've busted mine several times... Just take it to the machine shop and have it fixed. It's a cast metal and cannot be welded so it would have to be brazed. I've busted the ear completely off mine on the blade side where it wraps underneath. I guess when you use a cheater bar to lock down rock... somethings gotta give LOL. The vise pictured could be fixed before it breaks... Just take a grinding bit V out the crack and braze in a new one....
Heck I've even taken out the T-Handle and replaced with a bolt just to be able to close the lid. For some reason Frantom says have a problem with accepting too large of rock and the T-handle doesn't allow the lid to close. ----- Never fails... I have a 20" and I try to cut 24" material... So I get a 24" and I cut 30" material LMAO!!!

Oh forgot ;D Captbob - Do you cut rock with your saw??? Dang that things clean! Those pictures were taken about a week to 10 days after I got the saw, so I hadn't had much time to dirty it up. It's still pretty clean 3 years later by most standards, I'm pretty anal about keeping stuff clean. When I use my grinding machines, I spend almost as much time after their use cleaning them as I did dirtying them up

Factory built saws use a thin hardboard type material in the vises. I myself ash canned that and placed a chunk of soft pine in my vise... Cutting Thundereggs I needed something to squish around the stone and grab it. So heck you can replace it with just about anything which would hold a rock

My vise broke out completely where the cracks are in the picture. As stated it doesn't matter. It breaks when you start to tighten with the clamp to far back. If your vise is not closing evenly put blocks on opposite side slightly less thick than rock. That keeps vise straight when tightened. I use pine scraps between the hardwood and rocks.

Those cast parts can be welded, but it's an expensive process. First you have to grind a V- notch almost all the way through the crack. Then the part has to be heated in an industrial oven until it's cherry red. The weld is done with nickle/iron rod while the part is still red hot. The part is then put back in the oven, and cooled down slowly over several hours. It works. It won't crack at the weld, and as I said, it's an expensive process. Cheaper to just buy the new part. Don
