Lovely pair of coconut geodes (Las Choyas) you've cut there!!!!
It's always nice when purple appears!!!
As they say in Hawaii - Mahallow!
The second specimen looks to have tiny specks of another mineral sprinkled here and there. Zeitner and Cross's _Geodes Nature's Treasures_ book indicates that hematite appears in 50 to 75% of these geodes and appears as tiny inclusions in the shape of spheres (or rosettes) of black, brown, or red.
But don't trust me, I'm not a mineralolologist...

I'd agree that they are Choyas. Not sure about your other rock, I don't really know the geology that far east, maybe its quartz with mineral staining. The preform cab looks like a thunderegg but others will know better. The last is definitely quartz.

Greg did you do those on your QEP saw? You had replied to my thread regarding that saw and the MK-170. Just wondering, by the looks of those I may well just go with the QEP for now.
Thanks.

Tony, Greg is a good, careful cutter... I've seen him in action. I do think he has a warning to check out the alignment of the table top before buying the QEP. I'm sure he can explain in better detail.

Those are sure some great cuts! I love the first geodes color! The second really does look like a mineral has stained it but it is still cool! It was so sweet that your girlfriends daughter thought to get you a rock and it really does look like a nice quartz! Oh, the tiny piece looks like it could be a Montana to me. I cab that size. If necessary, I dop them on nail heads or golf tee's to work them. Works great! Fran

Nice cuts Greg. You got 2 fantastic geodes, and the rest of your slabs / preforms look just as good.

Hey catman yes these were all done on my qep .. yes just be careful in the alignment and you will be okay ... The qep is i think about a 1/4 inch less clearance than the workforce..I do all my cuts on it .. Heres a link to some other cuts i made with it ... some of these too a very very long time .. using the side of the blade is the key for my style of cutting as well ..I will do alot of rough cuts ..and then I stop cutting for the day ..I take all my cuts and look at them under really good light and then I use a marker and mark them all where I need to go back and grind them on the side of the blade a little bit more ..If you look close you will see some marks on the geode s that I will go back and fix and make them near perfect .. For 77$ you cant beat it .. and who knows you may need to cut some tile one day ... Another thing is you cant cut yourself..lol I cut for 3 weeks thinking the blade would cut me ...Finally I slipped one day and it did not cut me and then I was told it cant cut you so I ran my finger across the blade ... over and over and over to get used to the idea ...But watch out for finger nails ... they can get damaged ..I keep my all the way down so theres less chance of a problem... I"d say go to home depot and peek in the box and make sure its level .,.buy it and youll be cutting that day ...heres the link forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=ccabs&thread=37196&page=1

Oh yeah your guna get wet ..maybe even soaked like i do .. Randy and JO and some others turn theres around and cut from the back so they barely get any water on them ... some people also make shields ... Me I love cutting right in front of it .. I started out that way and cant get used to doing it from the back so I get soaked each and every time ... It makes for alot of laundry ..lol

Those geodes and the agate are beauties. I'm not sure that's mineral staining in the second one, but could be where those larger crystals are a different color. The black specks might be hematite (or pyrite) or marcasite. If they're oblong, they're most likely marcasite. If they're shaped like a rooftop antenna, they're definitely marcasite.
And your daughter's rock is a keeper, too. Some of my favorite rocks are the ones my kids picked up.
