A 10" saw just only cuts a 3" stone w/o rolling so keep that in mind. I prefer separate units since I use oil for cutting and water for grinding. If I was just getting into this on a shoestring I'd go with a unit you interchange single heads (80 grit diamond wheel and an expando drum with an assortment of belts (SiC & diamond) and several polishing pads. Similar to www.gravescompany.com/cabmate.htm (they have a basic unit for DIY) others have like units too. But then again I am a DIY'er. Dr Joe .

A 10" would only cut a 3" rock. That's a solid piece of info, thanks. Maybe I'm not looking in the right direction here...

I have a Graves cabmate, I use it with a 6x1.5" expando and diamond belts. I can throw it in the trunk and take it with me to the rock club lapidary shop, or out rock hunting as well if theres power available. I would recommend it to anyone, a very nice unit.
