im picking up a saw tomorow. i went and looked at it but forgot my camera. im not sure what brand it is but im getting what i think is an 18 inch slab saw, looks similar to this. its old and i didnt recognize the brand.. i need to remove all the deisel/lube and carry it out of a basement and truck it home. is there generally a drain plug? or should i just siphon it all out into a bucket? im just trying to avoid making a huge mess. also, next to the saw is what looks like a table with a vibrating bucket full of kitty litter. im assuming its for drying off the slabs but i dont know. its big heavy and will be akward to carry, should i grab that too?

If it is like the one you are showing in the picture, there should be 2 bolts on the side that you can undo and then the whole saw part will lift right out of the pan, you can then drain the pan into a bucket or something for disposal. Some of them have 2 or 3 bolts on the inside also, so if those 2 on the outside don't release it, then you will have to undo the inside bolts to get it off the pan. If it is an 18" saw it most likely has a solid tank and hopefully a drain plug. Some of them do not, so then you would have to siphon it out. When you say vibrating bucket, do you mean an old flat lap or something? Anything that looks like it may go with the saw grab, if they will give you extra stuff, you might as well grab it, you might get something else in the deal.
Good luck with the new saw..........................Tony

The saw you've pictured looks like a Lontone 14" rig and it does have lift out cleaning which I hate because you must lift the "heavy" saw from the pan and then drain the pan. I've always thought that was a moronic way to have a saw set up as most of us hounds are older folks and those rigs are a booger to clean and messy. Lortones also have a really fast single speed power feed which tends to really dish your blades and screw up if your blade is not real sharp because it just pushes the rock into the blade way to fast......Mel

Covington saws have the same problem. The power feed overdrives the blade. I'm thinking of getting rid of the Covington green blade, and getting a more aggressive segmented blade. Don

I have the Lortone 12" and 14" saws. Rather than lifting the whole saw up out of the tray I just lift the front up and tilt it back and prop it with an appropriate length stick. I then scoop out the oil/mud mixture with a medium sized hand garden shovel. Bob

"easily tipped over and emptied out"
LOL isn't that they way? Whenever you try to be neat accidents happen. Nice saw I hope you get it up and running soon!
