I got the new motor for my 7" Husky, 6 mo old, still under warranty & it was defective. I am going to assume that the plastic black thing at the opposite end of the shaft is some sort of fan? Well that was broken & just spun around independant of the movement of the shaft (supposed to spin with the shaft). So I called them up, explained the situation to them & they sent me another one, which I got yesterday. By golly, would you believe, it's broken too! Not as bad, but still broken. It doesn't spin evenly when the shaft spins (turning this by hand to test it). It would eventually break all the way once it starts being used. The fan for the motor I am replacing is fine & a lot sturdier material too. Is is possible to take this little plastic piece off & replace it? Or shall I just call them (send pics) & make them send me another one? It appears that I am not going to have to send the motor back! Donnie Original First replacement Second replacement

Wow! who would have thought you would get two duds in a row
if you don't have to send the original back see if you can remove the fan and if all the hardware is the same see if it will fit the new one

you also might be able to epoxy a circular piece of plastic over the cracked one to reinforce it so it won't break

Send them a picture and ask for the replacement part. A repair could introduce an imbalance that will create other problems. You'll sleep better.

It either has a set screw holding it on or is press fit on the shaft. If there isn't a set screw, it will have to be pried off with a couple of screw drivers or pulled off with a gear/pulley puller.Have you got anyone that's handy (local mechanic?).

Me, I'm the handy one. Hey Dr Joe, you wanna come do it? I'll check around. I'm sure someone around here can do it.

I'd still call to get a replacement. Then if they don't want the broken one, attempt the repair. You paid for that saw, you deserve a working motor. My guess is that they were dropped, causing the breakage. :2cents:

I'm not very handy, but I'd sure like to help. How 'bout the middle of January when I'm belly deep in snow? A trip to the Keys would be nice!!

If it is a warranty get a motor that works. If you don't have to return them, save for parts. It looks like you may need them.

They are checking with the shipping dept & sending me another one, should have it in 2 days! They send a label to send the worst one back, the other one I can keep. So I have the original & the second replacement I can use for parts. The original one probably has worn out bearings but the fan is intact. Do you suppose I was a little rough on it??!!
