I think this is Wonderstone (rhyolite). Isn't it a cutie? I photo'd it wet as I haven't attempted to polish it. I'm not any good with soft stones. I have removed it from its lurking place in the closet and placed it in the specimen cabinet.

That one has a great pattern to it. Half the time I find them broken or cut through the center swirl. Looks good just the way it is! Fran

Beautiful specimen, but all but impossible to put a decent polish on it. Still makes awfully pretty cabs, if you don't mind a matt finish. Don

It may be Hickoryite which I believe comes out of Mexico. It takes a polish much better than Wonderstone. Cool Piece for just hanging out in a closet. Steve

Wow, SteveHolmes, maybe you are right. I was just thinking of spraying some clear acrylic on it but maybe not so fast if it can actually take a decent polish. I just found a second piece, not so nice, that I might experiment on...Hmm.
