I'm thinking of getting an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning cabs before stabilizing them. I've seen several Chinese models on ebay for $30 shipped. They vibrate at 42,000 cycles per second, hold 16 oz & have a stainless steel tank.
Does anyone have a recommendation or model to stay away from?

I have a 1 quart Bransonic that I have used for 35 years with no problems. I have no experience with the Chinese models, though. I use cheap liquid hand dishwashing soap and cheap pure ammonia liquid (not the sudsy type) for cleaner. Works as good as the expensive cleaning products sold with the cleaners. Bobp

Funny you should ask this now. I have a mineral specimen running in my GemOro right now. I've had good luck cleaning rocks using plain water with just a few drops of dish soap in my machine. Don't use it on opal or other sensitive materials. It will destroy them. Also for removing rust staining or light calcium coatings, I run them using plain white vinegar in the ultrasonic. Don

Except for the name, the one from Harbor Freight looks just like my GemOro. Probably both made by the same company in China. I want to get a larger ultrasonic, and the GemOro steam cleaner. I bought my little one for cleaning metal detector finds. Don
