Hello everyone! My name is Irene, and I live in Spain. I have been reading around for a while, and it doesn't seem like there are many Europeans here! I am absolutely new to rock tumbling... I am a jewelery student, so metalworking is my thing, even if I'm still just learning. However, I have always been in love with the sea, and I have quite a collection of sea stones and beach glass that I have picked up over the years. I would like to eventually use at least a part of my collection in my jewelery. Although I have never tumbled any rocks, I do own a Lortone 33B tumbler that I have used for other crafty purposes. Now, I would like to use it for my stones! I hope to get to know all of you better, and learn form all of the experienced rock artists here! I have some questions to ask, but I guess I will do it later, in a more appropriate subforum than this one Just wanted to introduce myself first... I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences with all of you! Greetings from Spain!

Hi Irene, and welcome aboard. What part of Spain do you live in ? I spent two tours in the U.S. Navy over there, and loved every minute of it.
There is much to be learned on this forum, so ask as many questions as you like, and we'd be happy to answer them.

Hi, Don! Thanks for the welcome! I live in Madrid, so I don't have any beaches to find treasures from nearby, but I like to travel a lot. Most of my stones come from the different coasts of Spain (mostly from the mediterranean, though), and also from my overseas travels. I'm visiting Tunisia this month, so I hope to get some nice stones there!

Along the beach north of Rota, I used to find some beautiful deep red jasper with tiny pyrite crystals in it. I still have a few pieces that I brought home with me. It takes a beautiful shine. Wish I could get back to Spain one day, and search the mountains north of Barcelona. The college students there used to sell specimens that they'd collected, to make extra money. I sure miss the Paella and Sangria. You can't find decent Spanish food here in the U.S. Don

Hello, Irene, and welcome on the board. You're right, the beaches can give lots of very cool rocks sometimes, if you know what to look for. They are good for tumbling but some of them are even worth for cabbing, so, making cabochons could be an option for you in the future, especially if you already are learning to work with metal.

Hi all! Thanks so much for the warm welcome! It's great to find such a friendly and international crowd! Don, if you really miss spanish food, you should try cooking it yourself! Many dishes are very easy! I can give you some recipes, LOL! I hope to learn a lot here! For the moment, my notions on geology and minerals in general is... poor, to say the least. I just pick up the pebbles and stones that I find nice. But from now on I'll pay closer attention I can take a picture of some of my pebbles if you'd like to see them, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow, because there's no light now... however, I'm sure they are not interesting, just regular, common pebbles. I have opened a thread with some newbie questions, you can check it our here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=tottumb&thread=39958I'm sorry if they have been answered a thousand times before, but I have tried making some searches and haven't been able to find the answers... Thanks for your help!

Hi Irene, I am studying Jewelry and metal work also. My wife and I may be in your neighborhood in the next couple of years. My grandfather was from southern Italy, and I have cousins there as well as a cousin in Switzerland, so we are planning a trip there to see my grandfathers birthplace, and soak up some European sites. Just haven't set the date yet Beside that Welcome to the board. I have enjoyed being here for almost a year and I have learned a lot from these guys and gals. Ed

Hi Irene. Welcome from Southern California. I understand Spain is beautiful. Well, as the others have said, you've come to the right place. I'm fairly new here and find the entire site facinating. I did not know there were so many of us in the world. It's so great in this modern world that we still find nature, and especially geology, so interesting and even new. Welcome! -Chris.
