I so enjoy rocks, stones and gems that, probably like most of you, they litter my house. My office is insanely decorated (if you can call it that) in stone. I'm trying to really make it my "man cave", in a more literal sense.
Anyway, was digging through some boxes sitting around and came across one that Donnie had sent me back at the beginning of the year. It was a "grab bag" box that I told her, "don't tell me what's in it, just send it". Out of that box I've been creating specimens to sit around my office all year long. Haven't really displayed any lately.
Finally, after all the turmoil of this year and moving into the new house, I finally pulled out my flat lap and put it to use tonight. Yes, it feels great to have the tips of my fingers feel filed down again! I love the few simple splashes I get in my face when working the stones. I love the smell of the rocks and the feel of them as I turn them this way and that.
I was so stressed earlier today, now I am calm as a camel at an oasis.
Donnie, this beauty was in that box, and I love it! You're such a great friend!
I polished the face, added a nice sharp angle across the top, then polished one side and the bottom. Left the back side natural and will give that a very light polish just to bring the black out a bit more. Gotta get out the dremel for that work. Anyway, it's lovely on my desk!
I wish I had captured how shiny and smooth the face is, but still looks pretty good in the photo, so much better in the hand.
