I have a box of silver, there is some sheet silver and also bezel wire. I do not use this stuff and I am trying to figure a fair price to sell it. It is about 1 lb 12 ozs. Any help would be appreciated - Thanks.

Wow! Wish I could take you up on the offer. There is no way I could possibly touch that at current prices. I bet you won't have any trouble finding a buyer. Good luck! One idea that might help with pricing would be to look for items and amounts equal to what you have on web sites like rio grande and others that sell material for silversmithing and see what it sells for there.

Wow - wish I had a box of "useless" silver - it's about $29 per oz. at Rio Grande today - makes your 1lb 12oz box worth $812. Why not just post it on eBay? Or, you could send it in to Rio Grande, and they'll melt it down to pure silver, weigh it, and pay you a percentage of the current market price for it. About $600 at today's price, without the hassle of trying to sell it. I have done that - using their "precious metal scrap" program, here: www.riogrande.com/landingpage.aspx?n=scrapGood luck! Tom

I think the spot price of $29+/ounce is for troy ounces. There are 12 troy ounces in a troy pound. Cannot remember if that changes the value of your hoard. In any event, you've got a considerable amount of silver there

Wow, I would love to have some sheet silver but I know the price is out of my market. Easiest would be Rio Grande but someone may just buy it if you set a price.

Wish I could buy it, too, but can't spring anywhere near a fair price for that much silver.

why not do an auction for the members here and set a minimum price for yourself. maybe split it up into parcels. just a thought since you asked.

Hey JR I will give 75% of spot for it all.Thats about what you would get at a pawn or coin shop. it is considered junk Silver because no assay or mint stamp. BTW a troy pound is 12oz. 1 oz = 31.1 grams. So you have 2lb 1oz. Spot is $29.37 right now. www.kitcosilver.com/

bushmanbilly ---- you went the wrong way -------- 1# =16 av.oz. = 12 troy oz. ---- he has 1 & 3/4# av so that is 12+ 9 troy = 21 troy ozs. -- sterling is @ 81% silver so there is @ 17 oz. of silver and scrap is @ 80% so it is @ $400.00 worth ------- now is it anything that is usuable ? -- how thick are the sheets ? and how big ? is it soft , 1/2 hard, or hard ? also how much bezel is there ? riverbendlapidary ------ do you have any pics of it ? without any more info , I'd offer $200 ------------ and hope that it's something I could use . ------

Snowdog now you made a mistake. lol Sterling is 92.5% silver. 81% would be silver made for reticulation. A website that buys silver put the value of 21 troy ounces of sterling at $566. That much silver would last me years but I'd be interested if the price were right.

tony , your right sterling is 92.5 --- they had me too confused on the weights ! ;D ---- but on rio grande's site that's mentioned above the only thing they would pay that much for is silver bars/coins that are stamped/ mint marked which are 99.9 % -- everything else was at the $400 amount for 21 troy ozs. ---if he has the original receipt as to what he has then you could go from there , but otherwise you'd be guessing ---------- I saw a nice little silver creamer/bowl the other day that was supposed to be sterling , but when I found a "triple plated" stamp on the bottom that changed the price real quick !

Silver Plated can make fools out of anyone... My wife inherited some serving trays when her aunt passed a few years ago. Everyone thought they were ancient and valuable, but alas, they were only silver plated and not worth what we expected...still it's something to remember a loved one by and worth very much in that respect
