Ive made less than ten cabs with my eastwind 1,200 grit belt and it started to unravel today from the right side i burned the loose strings shut but it came apart again and now i cut them ... ... I can keep using it but Iam worried that the more it unravels the more everything could become contaminated ....even though it is a 1200 grit belt and i only swap that expandable drum with another eastwind but 3k ... well ill see if they have a warranty from John ... Is there anything else I could do with it ? maybe use it somehow for detail work ... like glued to a stick or something life goes on ... will never buy that brand again EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And I suggest you dont either ..... infact I noticed from day one that the surface was wearing down extremely fast by the main seam ...

That has got to be really frustrating. I'm thinking that that one particular belt may be defective but maybe there are other factors also. Have you contacted John yet as he works really hard for his customers.
All I have ever used on my expando are Eastwind belts from John and I go 400, 600, 1200, 3000. Sometimes swapping ea belt several times in a few hours. I have probably created over 200 cabs (maybe well over up to 300) and have only had to replace ea belt once for wear.
The seams do tend to be the first spot on my belts to show wear but nothing like you describe. I have been very happy with how long the belts last, the unbelievable polish and shine that they produce on my cabs and I have never had a problem with the belts unraveling.
I had just two issues with individual belts one where the width of the belt was off by an 1/8" and the other was a high spot in the diamond grit but John got those problems solved for me.
I don't mean to start anything but where you made a strong suggestion for everyone else, I just thought that the other side of the coin should also be heard.

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles Roller. I've been using Eastwind belts for 6 months or so without any problems, aside from my own technique.

In my opinion................Eastwind are the sorriest belts on the market. They are on very thin backing, either too wide or too narrow to fit the expando, either too big(loose) or too tight(hard to get on and off) and they DO unravel. I have been buying the cheap China belts lately and they are very strong, have about an 1/8" backing rubber. Have used Raytech a lot in the past, but they seem to wear out quicker than any others, including Eastwind, but they do have a good, hard, backing belt. They do fit better. Cost more. Like I said, this is my opinion. I am a VERY agressive cutter. Ken

As long as we're throwing around...I've been doing this for longer than I care to admit and spent more than I will ever tell ;D and NO problems with Eastwind. No fraying or shredding or problems with their fit. I like their mediumweight substrate (backing), why have a flex wheel if your belt doesn't flex . One belt does not make a whole product line bad. Roller, If you bought it from John have you contacted him yet? rockmanken, perhaps you would be happier with Eastwing's heavyweight substrate. Dr Joe .
