Turned on the computer this morning and waited, and waited,-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- and---------------------------------------------------------------------------
NUTTIN !
Hard drive went tits up on me.
There went a couple hundred rock working and flint knapping videos plus all of mom's video games plus 6 years of misc. collecting neat stuff. The man from the GEEK squad said there is a 50/50 chance he can recover it when he sets up the new computer I bought this afternoon.
Ya RIGHT !!!!
I quit drinking quite a while back and could use a little help !
Would about 150 of you kind Rockers out there have a drink or two FOR me ?
The wife was just released from the hospital after a 2 week stay because a Dip $hit Doctor gave her the wrong medicine. Big HOLY CRAP drug reaction!
The computer was the icing on the cake !
Please hold it down to 1 or 2 because it would probably upset the wife if some wobbly rock hound called in the middle of the night needing Bail money !
Thank's guy's,
I appreciate the help !

I don't drink Harley but after hearing that story, I may chug a couple for you. Of course I'll probably be the wobbly rockhound that calls in the middle of the night.

I can definitely sympathize with you! I just had a major hard drive crash five days ago. My computer started showing symptoms of a problem, and I took it in to be repaired. It held up for about a day and then the hard drive completely crashed. Luckily, I had backed up all the crucial stuff on an external hard drive, but I didn't realize that my email was not backed up. I had YEARS worth of vital emails saved there, so I went into panic mode, needless to say. I was extremely lucky though, and my computer guru was able to retrieve it using a powerful data recovery program. Whew, was I relieved! I lost all of my program files, though, and that is one royal pain in the butt. You never realize how many programs you use all the time until you lose them. Many of them were purchased online so I didn't have installation CDs. I am happy to have survived this mess, though.

It must be this global warming that's causing all of these hard drive crashes. I'm sitting here pecking away at my week old Sony VAIO. My old Dell crashed a little over a week ago. Luckily, I didn't have very much vital info on it, so I'll just rebuild everything little by little. I have an unopened fifth of Jack Daniels that was given to me back in 69, if it'll help.

Sorry to hear that, Harley!
Wow! Curt and I have something in common: I don't drink, either. But I can still commiserate. I had a computer that killed it's hard drive about every 2 yrs. After the 3rd drive, I finally gave up on it. I'm just waiting for the day when one of my drives dies on my other 2 computers.
After you get your new computer set up, go to the local warehouse store and get a back up drive. $100 is worth the saved aggravation.

I have been seeing an ad on T.V. that runs about $40.00 to back up your programs and such. I never see it tho when a pencil is handy ! The back-up drive is probably the way to go.

yep, i'm having a big ol' glass of wine to comiserate, Harley. our old Dell has had some major blue screens and we lost a BUNCH of stuff even though we try and back up what we can. we bought some backup software, but that started making it bluesceen, so wtf? i try to back up photos and stuff on those little USB thingies. but for sure, you don't know what you got til it's gone. hope your wife is feeling better, KD

The main thing here is your wife is home and safe. Computers can be replaced. It does suck though, as we lost a bunch of our daughters' baby pictures because of the same thing. I've been thinking of backing my stuff up recently, probably should get to it...
I gotta work tonight, so I'll have a hot cup of coffee for ya!

Oh man Harley! You have been having it rough! I am so glad that your wife is finally home and I hope she has no lasting effects! I will keep my fingers crossed that your information can be retrieved and not completely lost! Maybe I will have a hard lemonade for ya! Fran

Don, If I remember right, 69 was a REALLY good year ! At least it's some vintage stuff. The year wasn't that great. I was getting ready to ship out to Nam for the second time. A buddy came by the house and gave me the bottle of Jack. Said we'd drink it when I came home. My mother stored it away to keep my old man from drinking it. When I finally got home I found out my buddy had been killed in a car crash. Just never opened it. Don

Hard lemonade is my wife's favorite, have two, one for each of us because she is still on antibiotics and can't indulge.
