I picked this hunk up at the local show today. I thought the vein (almost at the bottom) was interesting, but have no clue what it is. I did cut one slab off the end, and it's fairly soft. Any thoughts? Thanks, Nate

Hard to tell with just a picture but I'm thinking maybe something in the serpentine group. The tigereye looking zone at the bottom could be an asbestos type mineral as asbestos is often associated with serpentine. At first I was thinking maybe mariposite but it doesn't look quite right....Mel

Thanks for the ideas y'all. Ted I.D.'d it (on my rock show thread) as greenschist.
Todd, I don't have a pic of the slab, but I cut a cab from it today, which is posted in the cab forum.

Now that i can see it better , does look like serpentine . if serpentine , would be softer than schist . schist is usually 6-7, serpentine 3-5 hardness

It looks a bit like Clear Creek Jadeite to me. Bob

I have to agree with Mel. Probably a serpentine, and that band at the bottom is probably asbestos. I find small pieces in road gravel around here quite often.

Now that you mention it guys, I bet it is serpentine. It cut like butter and I only worked it to 1200 to get a good polish on it.
I'll go ammend my posts again lol.
Thanks, Nate
