Pulled this scaphite out to start working on it.did some fracture repair on it,will start the slow process on chipping away the extra matrix. It shows that this snail died, than other smaller snails and clams started eating on it,than died in the process of doing it...Nice find I think. Found this in the higher "Hell Creek" formation and lower "Bearpaw" formation in central Montana....

Fossils just don't peel my potatoes but , I think that project is going to be outstanding when you're finished - and, I really want to see it when it's done. Please post when its finished. Looks agatized in the first pic

I love fossils but hate the cleaning process. Looks like a great project.

Ditto Curt- I have a couple boxes of trilobites and croniod stems that need cleaning- Had em for a couple years (okok like 20!) but I dread the cleaning part. I should just get rid of them.

This ammonite has alot of "mother of pearl" on it.I took most of it off to just incorporate it into the fossil. When the light is just right you see yellows, oranges, reds, blues and greens.......

Looks agatized in the first pic gary I'm second generation fossil hunter and collector, its in my blood, that's for sure!Hunting rocks I enjoy for an hour or two,but if it's a fossil hunt,I'll stay out all day untell dark thirty-LOL.......... I usually sell or trade off my rocks for fossil stuff. Nothing like looking at a lay of land and know what formation your in to hunt certain fossils, plus they are mostly buried, you have to study the land and nodules to find them, than start digging....A few fossils do lay on the ground for people to find, but the great ones you earn, after your dig.....

That finished project is gorgeous. Can't wait to see this new one finished with the extra snails as well.
