I picked up a few interesting things this weekend camping by the Florida Caverns. When I came home and started opening them up, a couple of them oozed out some green/brown stuff from the middle (just a bit). Is this normal? I took a photo of one right as the rock was drying, but the stuff came out of the little hole in the middle. Attachments:

probably just some water and maybe a bit of organic silt that seeped their way into there through a small crack or fissure in the stone....

Bust it open and see if anything in there is still alive.

I think You interupted the growing cycle of that nodule. In another million years it would have be solid. They form by water and minerals seeping in and drying
