I now work underground at my job with Mosaic potash. the mine is at 3000 feet below surface. New storage bins are being built down to a level 700 feet below the mined area. At that level the sea floor is exposed. I got a sample. One thing I found interesting was that there was no indication what so ever of any fossils.

It's kind of ugly, and it breaks up easy, but I guess I'll have to try some.

It should be hard enough to polish with 3700' of dirt and rock sitting on top of it. Brent, you are probably the only one that has any of that speciman. Cool find!

I will have to get more to take to Quartzsite in January. Once the storage bin is built, it won't be accessable anymore.

I got a chance to polish an end of one piece. Yes id does polish. When I get batteries, I'll post a pic. I tried scanning it and it didn't work.

Potash,I lived close to a town that dumped the potash from Canada and was sent by rail from there-the town is called "Northgate",next to the Saskatchewan border...... They trucked it down on their own private road...

I would guess that without fossils it's relatively young, but what do I know...

The number the "experts" have put on the potash is 350+ million years.
