Here are a couple of pictures of some rocks I tumbled in the 15lb rotary. There were in 60/90 for seven weeks and Aluminum Oxide for one week. I skipped all the other stages. If the carnelians look familiar, it's because I've posted other photos of others that went through all four stages. Condor

Wow! They look like candy! Eye candy at least....
Now I know what I want to do with my newly acquired carnelians....

Excellent results! Now were those in coarse for seven weeks with no recharges or did you recharge every week? I've never had a lot of luck with shaping when I just let them go without lots of recharging.....Mel

The rocks were in 60/90 without any recharges at all. They went straight to AO. After taking them out of the tumbler I rinsed them as well as I could then cleaned and dried each one with a soft clean cloth (old T-shirt). As far as the shape, the rocks all pretty much had the rounded shape to them. I got them in Tucson and the gentleman who sold me the smaller ones said that he uses those and places them in tumblers with other cracked rough rock. I just placed them in along with the larger carnelians.

Interesting method. I've tried that before and it was an utter failure. You had a much better result. Nice shine

When I take photos on white I get a glare comming back and a lousy photo ! I took the photos with a Nikon D50 with 18-200mm Tamron lens and had it zoomed in close to 18mm. They were taken outside in the shade with no flash. As for the shine I was just to lazy to change the grit so I left them in the 60/90 until I got the urge to switch to the AO. Condor

condor
Many thanks Ill try that I have a Nikon coolpix but I sometimes get a fuzy pic due to shake on Makro,
But one thing that intregues me is how do you get over the thick soup that you get from 60/90 (it seems the grit still kept working ? ) do you just add a bit more water ?
You realy did get a wonderfull shine on them rocks

You realy did get a wonderfull shine on them rocks Jack What happens is that after a while the slurry and thickness of the 60/90 just wears down more and more to where it eventually becomes that same as if it were close to perhpaps a 400 grits. So I guess in effect it goes through the different stages on its own. Never did add any more water. Just left them like that until I changed to the AO. Condor
