Can someone tell me the difference between Wild Horse and Owyhee and Palamino? I have all three side by side and they look exactly alike. The Palamino has more gray in it running into browns. The Wild Horse and the Owyhee have the same colors and the same outside brown skin. Ken

Hmm. I've noticed some overlap in those materials too. In my experience, Palomino is often more grainy than wildhorse and the "sky" areas more gray and often speckley. Palomino is often more difficult to get a mirror polish on because of this. More prone to soft areas along the exterior in Palomino too. Problem with owyhee is there are so many types. The feather or flower types with the red inclusions are easy to separate but the real picture types with the blue sky can look very much like wildhorse. The Owyhee will often have dendrites, more red inclusions and a more complex pattern. Wildhorse is usually just rolling hills and gray sky. And the Owyhee of course, takes one of the best polishes of all the picture jasper types. It's possible to find slabs that overlap but if you have several of each type, it's fairly easy to sort them out after you've worked a bunch of it. Now separating wildhorse and cripple creek, that is a different matter. That's tough....Mel

Seems to me it is all basically the same, just the different claim names. Of course some areas produce slight variations in pattern and texture.
There are actually two "Wild horse" claims, one has the stuff you have and the other in a completely different location, we checked out and the place was mined to death. We couldn't even find a pebble to know what they took out of there.

Thanks. Guess you can call it what you want if it is close, huh? New the palomino was a little different, but I have got a good shine on the ones I have. The Wild Horse I have is labeled WH, but it does have dendrites in it. Maybe they mislabeled it and it is owyhee. Thanks, Ken
