Roy: Query, Google Petrified wood in Washington. You will find a site that will help. Hardwoods are fairly easy with low magnification, but softwoods need magnification around 200X, and a section cut to one cell thick........which means cutting, sanding to almost a polish, glueing to a slide, slabbing thin, grinding thinner,then polishing before you can do an ID.
