:help:
I have a chicago 5 vibe. It is very loud and I was wondering if anyone has used truck bed liner to quiet them? Can you do that?

My work benches have a rubber top similar to a bed liner. I think it deadens sound a bit but my UV-10 is still pretty noisy....Mel

For a Chicago vibe, a dumpster would be a good silencer. Sorry, but you gets what you paid for.

Seeing as it is already loaded up with rocks you can drop it into a lake and when it sinks it should quiet down. But that would be a waste of some good rocks. I know you can unplug it. Sorry about the attempt at humor. I was hoping that it would take your mind off of the noise.

Aren't we cruel ? LOL. I guess you could put one of those cheap styrofoam coolers over it. That should deaden the noise some. Cut a couple of air holes in the cooler. Run it until it dies, and then invest in a good American made vibe.

You can put a scrap of carpet under it if it doesn't restrict airflow to the motor. Not a good idea to cover it as the motor will overheat.

Thanks guys, I do enjoy the humor. I know I bought cheap but I was told it was a flat lap not a vibe and I had no idea that it was a chicago.

What I'm doing is I only run the vibe only between 7 AM and 10 PM. No one has complained. I might try running it 24 hours during "air conditioning" season because I doubt the neighbors can hear it over the roar of all our A/C units now that it's summertime in New Orleans. Some people start their equipment at 6 AM because it gets too hot to work in the heat of the day, so if the lawn and yard machines of your neighbors are going, I think it's OK to rev up the tumbler. So I may go 6 AM to 10 PM until October...
My Chicago rotary is actually quiet and has been going 24 hours without attracting anyone's attention. Knock on wood. I'm new to rotaries, and it's a very slow process but I'm actually liking the shapes I'm getting...so far, so good, we'll see how it holds up.
.If the carpet scrap works for quieting your vibe, post and let me know. I have lots of carpet scrap left over from when our house had to be re-built, grrrrrr.

I don't know about a vibe, but the carpet works ok. Have 18" X 18" tile on top of the carpet. Easy to clean if I have a spill.

Hi Tammy,
Strange no one has mentioned putting it under a box
You could put a box over it & Fit a fan to assist cooling
Line the box with sound proof padding ?
Just a Idea

I am using an HP three tub vibe and put cardboard between the tubs and base where they sit to make it more quiet. I don't know if this would work for a Chicago vibe.
A somewhat funny side note...My neighbor often complains about my rotary tumblers which make much less noise than the vibe. The vibe is so loud it drives me nuts; she doesn't complain about it at all. She has never seen the vibe. Out of site out of mind?
