A friend of mine was on her in-laws farm in central Wisconsin and picked this up. She was very excited to show it to me, and I was too when I saw it. It's very sandy in that area, and I would think there's a lot of quartzite there, but don't know what this is. I'm guessing chert or flint, but that's just a guess. She found it near where a house originally was, and they're planting prarie flowers and grasses there now. I don't think she found any others. I didn't do a scratch test with my pocket knife, but it seems hard like quartz. It's waxy looking like a jasper, and it's quite heavy. Any help with I.D. would be great! Please excuse my crappy cell phone pix - Here they are: Wet: Thanks for looking, Nate

Interesting piece, nice colors. Are you gonna cut it? I would say a jasp-agate with some flint wraped around it. Almost has some banding

That's a great find - unusual looking combination. Congrats! Sorry, not very good on the identification side of things.

Thanks everyone. This is Jane's rock... See the vulcan death grip she has on it in the photo of it wet?!!! ;D There will be no cutting on this rock, she's keeping it as is. Actually it is fractured quite a bit too, so I figure it will fall apart on a saw anyway.
Thanks for the I.D. Don, I'll let her know what it is.

LOL Ted. Jane said she'll look for more of this next time she's out there. I told her to get a bunch and run a batch in her tumbler... Maybe she'll even share a piece with me. (a man can hope lol)
