Tonight's cab is a tall Botswana. It is 3-3/4" tall. Here is a before photo. Here is an after photo. Here is a photo with the other end up. I'm not sure which end I really want to call "up" Bob

Hi Bobby, I love that you included a before picture it is nice to see what you started with to end up with such a great looking cab. In your 2nd after picture on the top potion of the cab you can sort of see the thickness of the edge. Is the thickness of the perimeter of the cab the same all the way around? Thanks Stu

Very hard to decide about the orientation, indeed. Anyway, it's gorgeous no matter how you rotate it. Such an elegant shape!

Fantastic cab. I like the second way best. Looks more like an angel fish. Ken

Each orientation gives a very different look - but both are fantastic.

Thank you all for the comments. I try my best to visualize the ideal shape to compliment the colors and pattern within the rough as well as preserving the most material. The rough shape of the slab forced me evolve the final shape and it worked well for this cab. Stu, The apparent girdle height that you are seeing is just the reflection from one of the lights that I use to photograph the cab. I use two lights in my photo setup, one on each side. I always ensure that the girdle height is uniform all around the perimeter and I mark it clearly before I start the doming. In this case it is 1/8" high. This cab took me a little longer because the slab wasn't equal thickness all around. One end (the bottom in photo 2) was 1/4" thick, the other (top) was 3/16" so I had some extra grinding to do as I was forming the dome. I am quite pleased with the outcome.

Nice, very nice. Just curious, how long did it take from start to finish once you started grinding? Karock

Karock, I have about 2 hours in this cab. It took a little longer because I had to even out the thickness from the slab not being cut evenly and because it had two concave sides to work. Bob
