Chester Richardson ( John )
In 1991 he had dug the face of theMoss bed. To expose some new material. with a backhoe.
As i was lucky to be their the next day to dig.
The mustard - Yellow at that time i found deep on the face of the Strata in that bed. ( 7 Ft down on face ) I`m 6.6 ft. tall, and i was digging with out trench supports.
About 2-4 ft, most often the material is brown and dark, though i`m Brown Green color blind in a lot of shades. And on top you have the common Geode that is banded. ( Solid Geodes )
In the lower section most of the moss was in the range of 1/2 Lb. - 3 Lbs. in size.
That year i dug close to 400 Lbs. of the moss. for 45 Cents - Lb.
stoneviews; they are rare in the rust to mustard colors to find.

Those are great.
Is there writing on the stones or am I imagining things?

That layered effect on the golden one is very cool. Amazing the variety that comes from that ranch.....Mel

Moss Beds are great eggs - However can be a pain to dig. I usually attack this bed with a slam bar and the hoe pick. The egg with the yellow moss is usually refered to as Curtain moss due to the draping effect. However as Jack said if you can get in after the back hoe has cleared the bed you'll find some great material. I know Richardson's very well and have dug some great holes with John and Casey - this year for Memorial day weekend I dug with the two in the flat bed with the back hoe. Great time and great plume!

My wife, and I dug the Priday bed during the Pow Wow times this year. I found a shelf where the backhoe, had removed the perlite, and the opal egg layer. Could not have asked for a better dig. After I window a few tomorrow, I will get them cut, photographed, and posted. Woody

I have a bunch of those in a bucket I got for free. Haven't cut any yet but I can see gold moss on some of the edges.
