Inherited these from someone who used to collect rocks. Any clue as to what they might be? Thanks....................Donnie

Grinding stones? Mortar/pestle combination in the bottom photo?

The balls in the first picture look like Moki balls.

They look like taconite pellets. Are they attracted to a magnet?

Donnie, those will be a wonderful addition to a collection. Probably have some value as well since they are in such good shape.

I may be wrong but I've found a lot of mortars in my wanderings and every one was extremely smooth inside the bowl part from the constant grinding action. The holes in all I found were also very uniform and smooth edged. I think since your first example is very rough, that it's probably just a concave natural formation. Same with the balls that appear to be some form of natural concretion. Grinding stones are again, mostly extremely smooth from the grinding action. The exception to the rule I've seen is in Oak Grove culture manos which are loaf shaped and when worn smooth, are sometimes pecked with little pits on the grinding surface to help them grind better. Can't see the inside of the second example enough to tell how smooth it is but again the pestle portion on top seems much more irregular than what I'm used to seeing. I'd post pics but my collection of this stuff was given away when i moved to Texas. I forget who got it all, maybe Lowell ( elementary) did..Mel
