Hey, Rockrookie, looking good! And I see they have the same dastardly "ledges" that mine have--they look like someone really did a number breaking them up. I've got a few in 500, waiting for the pits to occur--I recall last year all looked good and then started falling apart--to pits. I hope a few survive the complexion issues this year.
My 500 batch is in process, I will post a photo of the ones waiting for 220 later this evening (hopefully).

Those are looking great Paul! I can only see a few that have pits in the photos but it's hard to tell? Mine are LOADED with those dreaded pits again! I haven't takes any photos this year but "if" I remember I will and add them here! I can see in your 1st photo that you're not getting a real slurry either but have a brown/redish colored soup.I noticed last year that this seems typical of this material and this year I cut back on my water but it still came out very thin compared to other rocks.
Mine are in their 5th rough right now but I have culled some from the last rough and they are ready for the 220 in my Lot-O.
BEST of luck to ALL!

My apologies--my photo equipment is still failing me. I have a dinosaur camera that uses floppy discs; last year a very kind member sent me some since I couldn't find a place to purchase them and all of mine gave error messages.
Several days ago I came home to the floppy "attachment" to my laptop on the floor, now it is consistently telling me that the discs need to be formatted. They are still working in the camera, so I'm pretty sure there is some damage to the mechanism.
I have about half a three pound barrel in 500 right now--they looked pretty good, but there were spots on several that whispered that they harbored pits. I *really* hit pits last year in 500, so I'm holding my breath. I also have those wicked marks in a lot of them that look like someone smashed them in the wrong place with a chisel.
I hope we all tie this year--except Connrock deserves a first place.

Susan,,, I REALLY appreciate your cheers for me to win 1st place this year but I don't "deserve" what I don't earn!
The thing that puzzles me is that I don't know how to do any better then I have been doing in previous years yet I still can't seem to grab that 1st place "trophy"! LOL
I haven't advanced any of the rocks that made it through rough as I wait until I have enough to fill the barrel in my Lot-O and go on from there. It all goes pretty fast once the rocks go into the vibe and that's fine with me after trying to get the flaws out in the rough stage for months on end!
Good luck to all the RTH people and I hope to see you all in the "Winners Circle",,,,,soon!

Tom, mine are behaving so differently this year that I really suspect that the much of the end result is the luck of the batch of rocks we got. Last year most everything was almost solid red, and most of the ones with nice patterns filled with pits. This year I have few solid red ones, and I'm not getting too many pits (yet). The only thing I've done differently is adding Ivory Soap shavings from the outset. I did this mostly because I received a lot that were "thin," and I figured it would lessen fracturing at inopportune moments.
So--I think we control part of the process, but a lot of it lies in the luck of the draw with the rough we receive!
I only have partial barrels, but am tumbling with both lots of pellets and boulder opal to make up the difference. I'm not planning (right now) to put any in the vibe as I am still such a newbie with it.

Common Susan,,toss them babies in that Lot-O and give us a whirl! LOL I have a few rocks that are now showing fractures all the way through that I couldn't see when I started them! One in particular has the most beautiful pattern in it but and had it not been fractured it would be a real "eye catcher" but that's the norm,,,aint it! Grrrrrrrr!! Find me a fracture and I'll show you beauty! LOL
Good Luck,,,

I weighed my rough when it arrived. It lost half its weight in the coarse stages. Is that about par for the course on this kind of jasper? Put some in 1000 in the Lot-o today, and put some back in 60/90 too! Like yall say, some of the prettier ones are the ones that went back.Good luck!

snuffy, Don't you find it odd that this jasper looses so much of it's weight yet doesn't create a thick slurry?Hard to figure? I didn't take detailed photos of the rocks I did in last years competition but I did the first year and was amazed at how much weight some rocks do loose during the tumbling process,,,, Here's a link to the first years tumbling process from start to finish,,,,check out the weight loss,,,,, imageevent.com/tcknkk/comprocks2009?n=0&z=9&c=3&x=1&m=24&w=0&p=0Good Luck,,,, connrock

Well mine are as finished as they're gunna get and I'm kind of disappointed in my results not due to the shine I got on them but due to the fact that all of the ones that don't have flaws(pits) don't have much of a pattern either! Like someone said before,,,,it's the luck of the draw as to the rough we get and that's that! This years rocks don't shine any better then last years or the ones I did the year before that and I don't know how I can get a better shine on them so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,that's that I guess!
I think it's funny that every year I've done this competition the rocks that are the biggest and have the best patterns are chuck full of nasty pits and this year is no different. I have one rock and of course it's one of the biggest with the nicest patterns but it looks more like the moons surface then the moon does,,,,and you don't need a 10x loupe to see the "craters" either! LOL
I didn't take any photos as yet but if I do I'll be sure to post them here.
Good luck to everyone and I hope to see you all in the winners circle!

Mine are pretty well picked out.I just got a little over a half pound of no flawed stones.I'm not satisfied with the size selection I have As Connrock stated ,the larger ones are the ones that are flawed.I would have prefered a set of larger stones but it's not to be.The rest have been run through several times and are still in motion, but I dont see them improving to make the cut.I'm not putting up pics until after the contest is over, and would rather see all the others after the contest.Be like me showing a 400 lb pumpkin in a largest pumpkin contest and going to my friends house and looking at his 600 lber weeks before the contest! ;D. Good luck everyboby.
