Almost cried... Patrick told me that it's only fair if I post my screw ups too... ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) I worked over 3 hours on this potential beauty. Darn it, it split apart on me for no reason at all! I wasn't even using pressure.... Ugh! This was the prettiest piece of fluorite I had, it was going great and I was getting excited to post a prettier cab than my last fluorite. Didn't work though. Broke apart mid-way through. Ok, so here's my complete failure for the day (the blue in the pics is actually a light violet color in person, don't know why my camera picked it up as blue): What it was starting to look like before a little more shaping ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) ![](http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/kgniot0709/P1030322rth.jpg) And how it ended up ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) ![](http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/kgniot0709/P1030323rth.jpg) Sucks big time, sure had some deep color.

Sometimes that's how the cab crumbles Krystee. I have some amethyst that's like that. I've cut up quite a few slabs of it, and only gotten one good cab so far from it. Hey, at least you didn't drop it and cause the breaks... I've done that too lol.

Yeah, Krystee I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. Dropped em like Nate too. I've been having problems some Alabaster and Soapstone breaking on me while I was carving it. But at least it is helping me figure out how to solve those problems.
Still a very pretty cab, Krystee

I know exactly how you feel. The same thing happened to me last week with my most treasured piece. A piece that depicted the scene of a volcano. It to split right down the middle as a result of a hidden fracture. Just last night I was working some crazy lace and the stuff crumbled and split like a piece of crumb cake. Fortunately I was able to salvage a few cabs out of it. Please see my post from last night: FEW MORE CRAZY LACE I am in the process of trying to glue the volcano cab back together again I am waiting for some of the kings men and his horses though LOL. Actually I think that I might be able to glue it and cab it. I tried glueing another broken cab and it worked and I was able to grind it. In fact I coulnt find the seem were the two piece where joined, so there is hope BTW that was truely a beautiful piece of florite. Keep on a cabin ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Stu

Yeah, it's a bummer. I've had a couple that have slipped out of my fingers and flown off the lap, across the room and broken, but they weren't the one's that I really really really liked. This one I did. Oh well, fluorites a bugger anyways, wont be doing too much more of it.
Thanks Stu... now every time I break a cab I'm going to think of Humpty Dumpty ;D

Sticks and stones will break my bones but my cabs will always befriend me. Even if one splits or flies to the ground with a little ingenuity it can again be made round. So, if another cab should break Just pick the pieces up from the ground and remember that there is no need to frown. ;D Stu

Aw Krystee, don't give up on Flourite. That was a beautiful piece and perhaps the next one won't break. It seems everyone has some history of problems with Flourite but the reward when it comes out right is awesome.

Super Glue those pieces together Krystee. It will still be a beauty, for you to keep. Jo

is that fluorite?
the fluorite is really prone to cracking with very little heat and pressure
it has hidden cleavage lines that show up when working it, I had some that was killer do that same thing so I turned the pieces into small cabs

I was going to suggest SuperGlue, too. Keep it for yourself. The colors are gorgeous
