Inspired by nature. Hell I AM INSPIRED BY YOU!!! Those are fantastic. How did you get the viens (lines that look like branches of a tree) in the first one?

Did you carve them yourself?
Donnie, Yes, I carved them myself. __________________________________________ How did you get the viens (lines that look like branches of a tree) in the first one?
Stu, I used a diamond scribe and then filled them in with gold color. I put veins in most of the ones that don't have a lot of pattern. It's too busy for the ones with a lot of pattern already in them. ___________________________________________
Thank you all for your comments.
FYI, I usually start by bringing a leaf inside and drawing it out for the cab design. If any of you start to make these, you will find yourself looking for interesting leaves as well as rocks when you are out and about.
How long to make? I guess that depends on several things - 1) how big is the cab, 2) do I need to put veins in, 3) how much caffeine have I had -lol! I can usually do one in about 3 hours, with veins.

Three hours! Holy cow! I bet it would take me three weeks!!!! I have a little book called Handbook of Gemstone Carving that has a chapter on leaves, and I always thought I should try it. Your leaves are actually better than his leaf, but I'm sure you've spent a lot of time developing your eye and your skills. I like the leaves you have in the autumn colors especially well...I wonder if it is more trouble to do a large leaf or a small one. Jade hates me, if I get off my duff and try it, I will start with Agate methinks.
