i have found a lot of pyrite at my jobsite. i want to tumble them because they seem hard enough, but are very rough. has anyone tumbled these? how tough was it? they already look nice but need to be cleaned up. should i start them in a fine grit just to clean em up and keep there natural shape? whats the etiquette with pyrite lol.

It's not hard to tumble, just expect your mixture to get black, black, black. Other then that, I found it to be about the same at tumbler other material.

It makes a horrific black stinky sulfuric mess and the pyrite doesn't come out shiny. I tried with a bunch of pyrite crystals I have, all by themselves.

I collected a lot several weeks ago, and working through them just using a hobby drill with wire brush attatchment, they looking ok. Asked same question as you earlier in year and majority advised not to tumble.

That looks good racevw112, i've got a few dull bits that I'll throw in next tumble to see, using black barrels so colour of sludge will not matter lol.
