Can anyone help me to understand why this Rock Tumbler is running so hot? I mean the motor (even after cleaning and running without canister) is too hot to touch! I'm worried to leave it on for days at time for risk of fire. If anyone else out there has a LORTONE Model QT12 Rock Tumbler maybe you can direct me to manufature or something so I can ask them about this. The motor is clean (used) spinning free without any apparent friction and even removed form housing the motor begins to heat up within minutes starting form the copper coils. I'm new to the hobby and anxious to get started...please help  Attachments:

As I said in your other thread, my lortone (also a QT12) ran hot all the time. Ran for months at a time with no problem (shut down for winter).

If the motor says "thermally protected" it will shut itself off if it overheats. You can contact Lortone directly.

I have a QT 12 and as Toad said, they do run hot. The manual mentions that they run hot to the touch. Mine has a Fasco brand motor, it does say thermally protected on the label. For peace of mind, you could place it on a non flammable surface, and well away from anything that could catch fire. See page 6 of .pdf www.lortone.com/pdf/QT_Series_PartsList_Instructions.pdf
