Does anyone know what type of polish comes with the Thumlers tumbler grit kits? Its a white powder. I did not have much luck getting a good shine with this stuff on my first attempt on a quartz/jasper load. I reloaded with cerium oxide and have that running now hoping for better results.

It was probably Micro - Alumina powder. Much cheaper than Cerium Oxide, and about the same hardness as the material you were tumbling. Cerium Oxide is harder than the material you were tumbling, and will give better results.

Thumler's polish is titanium dioxide. Worked fine for me – biggest problem would be if you let it dry in any cracks or pits left in the rocks.
Can’t go wrong with good old aluminum oxide from The Rock Shed. Cheap, and works just fine on most everything. Best tip – run the polish stage for about two weeks.
