That's amazing. They built it in 5 years using what is now antiquated equipment. A project that size now would take 20 years and a trillion dollars to build.

we got to go over the new bridge last weekend on our way to vegas for the wedding. They have the sides so high you don't even know your on the bridge at all.........

Curt – The $165 million cost also included the All-American Canal and the Imperial Dam, building the town of Boulder City, highways, railroads and various other works. The dam itself was only $49 million! I see houses listed for that much now. I was out there in ’95, about two months before the new visitors center opened. That project ballooned to about $119 million, fronted by the feds, to be paid back by utility customers in CA, NV, AZ, financed over fifty years. One estimate . . . $435 million eventually. The new bridge and highways, $240 million. My favorite pic was #13, the tunnel drilling machine, compared to this.

Thank you so much for posting these pictures. I just LOVE black and white photography and some of those shot are fantastic. Fantastic not just in their documentation of such an achievement but also fantastic in their aesthetic appeal. Stu

I was wondering how they would do this...I knew this would be too scary for a lot of drivers
