Looks to me, like one of the many varieties of Flame Agate out of Mexico....Mel

They sure do look nice and it is also nice to see you back on the boards Rodney Stu Thanks! I have been busy trying to earn a living. The top one i got in an estate sale and figured it had came from out west. I had thought i had seen something similar here on the board but couldnt quite put my finger on it. I had thought it came from Arizona but if Mel says it is probably a Mexican Flame Agate then I will take it that is probably what it is. On the lower one, I was having a bit of fun. I know precisely where it is from because I dug it myself in Jackson, Alabama. Most of the agate there is amethystine that grades into an amber or carnelian. I hit like a 100 pound seam of it, but a lot of it was fractured or had weird circular pockets with micro-minerals in the cavities. Too many circular voids in most of it. But I did get some slabs of one solid piece. The other half is in China. I had sent it to get some carvings made from it but their qoute was too high and I just told them to keep the rock instead of paying $60 to send it back. So basically the one good piece from the seam got shanghie'd

Yeah, I had no clue on the second one. You've got some nice looking agate in Alabama. That color is pretty intense.....Mel
