Just saw the request for Pietersite, but did not want to hijack the original message. I feel African is still the best, but more and more material comes from China theses days as the supply of the African material is sooooo limited. They had wonderful material in China just a few years ago. But be careful these days; there are lots of rumors going round that they have started 2 years ago to treat rubbish rough material to appear like top notch glassy. I loved buying those stones from China, but now I'm not sure anymore. Some of my stash below: Chinese Cabs My favorite Chinese Cab with a Fire Agate combo Anyone out there who knows more about the problem with Pietersite from China?

Yes you can, Pietersite from China a few years ago where just a little cheaper than African ones.
But remember, back then, there where only 2-3 sellers, and Ebay had somewhere between 100 ans 200 offers. Not like today (just checked) 4373 listings. The first 100 top-priced listings contains to me just 2 pieces that I think might be worth a look, the rest I would consider crap (BTW also not one of those is African)
I stopped buying 3 years ago (even the two I previously trusted). The single cab in the pendant at the time cost me near 500US$, today similar quality is listed at more than double and without certificates. I would not be willing to spend that much on uncertainty.
But Mary Ann, the limited quantity in the market plus the few people knowing the material, ensues that good quality will always sell at reasonable prices and cheap stuff while dominating the market (yet again) will always be suspect to the people who care about the things they wear .

Nate, there is, but not as much and its usually softer in tone than the African. The intensity of the colors in African stone can't be beaten by the Chinese material.

LOL Seriously I am very leery of Chinese mineral products in general. Even with a full refund policy the cost to ship back to China is to expensive. Stu

Stu: As a matter of rule; even though I sit in Hong Kong, I normally do not buy anything listed as Hong Kong or China once something has become reasonably popular. Find something new, no-one wants yet, then yes. But as soon as it becomes popular; forget it.
