Hi there everyone,
just wondering as to why I see so few uses of Green or blue tiger-eye?
I just got some chunks and a few small slabs. It looks quite good in the rough already.
So why is hardly anyone making use of that material? Does it have a bad rap, or is it extremely unpopular with buyers? If so, why?
Here in China, they use mostly yellow(golden)/brown tiger-eye for Fungshui, so that one is frowned upon as use in jewelry. Blue is quite popular with spheres, but again its not used in jewelry.
So whats up with that?

You know, I've been sort of wondering too... I have a beautiful Hawk's Eye (blue Tiger Eye) pendant and earring set in my shop for a while with no interest. I'd like to know if anyone has any thoughts on this. Jo

speaking only for myself i have not mastered polishing tiger eye. fibers tear out or cracks on me. i have tiger eye but until i get better at polishing it i will limit wasting it. i do love it, one of my favorites.

I find blue tiger eye frustrating to work with. it seems to pull and tear more than other types and can be very difficult to get a mirror polish on. Maybe I just have bad rough, but that's my experience with it. otherwise, I really like the color.

I have used blue/gold tiger eye in my knife scales. Used gold and also blue. Have used tiger iron a lot, too. Have no problem with it. Used to do a LOT of pendants in all colors of tiger eye. Don't see a problem in using it. Ken

i've never seen green tiger eye and have only worked one or two cabs in the blue (which, i must say were disappointing, not a lot of chatoyance). i've made quite a lot of jewelry out of the gold, and yes, the quality of the material varies and can make a difference in the finished product.

Thanks for the comments thus far.
So the consensus seems to be that it is difficult to work with.
Sounds similar problems than when working with Pietersite.
Will have a try with the green one first as there seem to be less problems associated with. As I do sanding by hand and final shaping with files and sanding-sticks, I should have less problems with fibers coming off.
