Howdy, If you're near any foundries or railroad tracks where foundry waste might have been used as ballast, I'd guess from the porous appearance, that your specimen might be slag, from a steel mill or something like that. If it's not man made and was found someplace where one would not expect to find slag, it may be hematite which is a silvery iron ore and has a red streak when you give it a streak test. Most hematite I'm used to seeing though, is more solid in appearance without all those bubbles. There are other metallic ores too but I'm not much of a mineral guy so maybe someone else will give you a better idea about what you have......Mel
