KK;
Well funny you should ask, Yes i have done many fire agates. I high graded about 90 Lbs. and found 40 Lbs. to grind and crave on then to the rotary tumbler in 80 grit & garnet run for month. yes i check how their doing. then more grinding & tumbling. to work in around the botrydols.
I use a old flex cable with a 1/2 Hp. motor, - ( 1750 RPM ) its a old dye cast grinder flex cable. from the 50s. i just like to post material others can work. their to expensive to ask Market price.
and the prices are to high on the www. net.

Your equipment sound like mine, except that my Flexishaft needs replacement virtually every other month. You are certainly right about the prices on the net. Most finished stones that I would consider acceptable are usually way out of my modest budget. I have very limited personal experience with FA. As there is absolutely no-one in Asia working them, there is nothing to compare to with the little that I have got, but even dough I see the same stones in stock for years on the net, the prices never seem to come down. FA, is in my opinion close to the best nature has to offer us.

Fire agate was voted in as a precious stone in 1992, though in 1991 Tiffany was holding out their vote while they bought claims. At the time there was 7 people / groups that held the vote to decide if it was going to be listed. Tiffany held out for six votes session. So they could buy claims down south.
After the Tiffany voted, Guess what the miner`s thought of that, The prices went out of site for Mine Run Select. and the Claim holders shut the claims down, Stop mining. finally Tiffany sold there claims.
More of this artificial is in Lapidary Journal ( Nov. 1992 ).
In the early 80s. mine run select went from 4 - 8 $ - Lb.
I was buying hand select then and it would have about 40% workable material.
Now that the interest and demand has changed. I have to go through friends to get good select mine run rough.
KK
It`s very difficult for me to post fire agate for sale...!!!
