After breaking the Brazilian, This one finally worked out. It's a pretty weird one in that! This piece came labeled Texas, yet have no idea what it really is. That's how the rough looked like: It has all sorts of moss in it plus parts that look like the onset of plumes. Close up and wet halfway through: Looks solid, all the fractures are fully healed and looks really strange when back-lit: And finally some shots on the finished cab: Thanks for looking, and would be great to get an ID for that one.

Could be a Rio Grande moss agate. Maybe Mel will jump in with his opinion. You sure made a beautiful cab! Fran

Beautiful cab! That appears to be a vein type agate straight form the matrix or found as float nearby the source due to the rough exterior. Most all Rio Grandes are rounded cobbles and smoothed on the outside due to water transport. Lots of that kind of agate is found in the Big Bend/SW Texas/adjacent northern Mexico area and of course that's the same stuff washed into the Rio Grande in ancient times and wound up in the gravel beds. Moss agate from SW Texas or the Ojinaga sp? area of northern Mexico would be a good bet on that one. Agua Nueva out of Chihuahua is another possibility. Bull Canyon from the Calif./Nevada border looks similar but a bit more tubey but I'm thinking the guy who labeled it was probably on the mark....Mel

A great look with and without the back lit, almost two different stones.

Since I no longer live in Texas I am with Lisatech. lol I live there for 24 years through my midlife crisis so I probably qualify also. I love the shape. I have no way to polish an inside curve and that is the shape that I like most. Guess I am going to have to learn how to polish with the dremel. Jim

Thanks for all the suggestions in regards to where it came from. So lets just call in Texas Moss Agate and that should cover every possibility. Also, many thanks for all the likes. Despite of the changes in shape it was the easiest of 4 pieces done during the week. Will post remaining two Obsidian's once I get reasonable pictures (Dang it; its harder to get pics of Obsidian than Fire Agate ).
