I few months ago I came up with a color coding system which I'm sure someone has came up with before so apologies if I'm repeating someone else's post... I use it on my vibe tumblers but it will work on any tumbler that has a washer on it. I bought a bunch of 3/8 inch fender washers and green, yellow, blue, and white spray paint. Color is not important as long as you have 4 different. You could use different colored marking pens if you want. So I sprayed 4 each of the fender washer with each color then sprayed the container with the desired grit or polish. Here's what I came up with. Green - 120/220 grit Yellow - 600 grit Blue - 1000 grit White - Micro Alumina I use the matching colored washer with the grit stage that the tumbler is on. Here are a couple pictures to illustrate: Here is a tumbler running with 600 grit: And here is how I organize the washers and grit/polish:

I use hole punched index cards placed under the washer. On the card I write what type of rocks are in the tumbler, current grit stage and date and day started. The index card hold the full history of the run.
I like your idea of color coded washers. Easier to see than trying to read a card that is going around and around.
