ID help I know where this rock came from. The help I need is what is the crystals embedded in the agate. The rock came from Red Bluff Mt. Of all the rock we have found we have only found just a few examples. The crystals you see in the pictures are never more than ¼ inches in length. Some times they are tight in the agate and other times they seem to be absent from the sawed slab. The short crystals do not form in any pattern they are random through out the stone. All ideas are welcome. We pick up this rock a few days ago and shows the rough exterior. The chipped surface. Slab showing the short crystals. I cut this rock maybe two years ago A closer look. Thanks for looking. Don

Ooh yeah, you sent me a sample of that. I think those are probably pseudomorphs after bladed ( tabular) calcite, aragonite or maybe after gypsum or barite that also have that crystal form. They appear acicular ( needle like) and would be classified as sagenite when you cut through them but as the exterior of your specimen shows the needles are the result of cutting through the blades at various angles.....Mel

Ohhhh!
That's awesome material!
May I poach your photos for the Agate Index. I'd love to show a sample of that! (Actually all your Red Bluff material would be great...)

Just looking at the broken bladed crystals on the outside skin, I'm going with pseudomorph after barite.

Lowell Take what you want. Before this winter season is over there will be more pictures of rock from this isolated area. It is getting so when I open the saw top if there is not a suprise I am disapointed. Mel and Jakesrocks thanks for your input as of now I will go with Pseudomorph after Barite. Don
