Thumlers weakness...those damn lids. The twelve pounders wear through in the middle after a very short time. We reinforce the middle with ductape...doesn't last very long, then Rubber or rubber or epoxy reinforcement or plexiglas replacements...or we just keep buying more of them becuse it is a fairly good tumbler that we've invested a good chunk of cash into.
The 3 pound thumler lids do not seal very well and leak all over the place..I read recently that you can help the seal with vasoline!

The lids are a weak point. The 15 lb. B model has a 5 year warranty on drum and liner but not on the lid gasket. When I sold Thumler's they would replace the gasket once if it wore out the first batch. The lids are fairly cheap or were back then.

Geoff, the next lid you get, tape the edge and spray with plastidip several coats,on the inside of the lid. That should end that problem.I posted about this in lapidary tips, dont know how to transfer the post here.I've fixed lids that were in that shape.Put a piece of duct tape across the hole on top of the lid,and turn over and spray away.

I fixed our problem by turning new lids out of 1/8" UHMW plastic, the stuff wears near forever. Any "industrial" plastic will work, and a lot better than steel. Another thought about using metal caps; it may react with the water, in the sealed environment, causing a gas buildup.

I use a plexi (thick!! like 3/4") liner glued to the lid- then a couple (ok like 5 or 6) coats of plasi-dip- So far so good (lids are lasting about a year- but now that I know the plasti-dip trick I just give it a couple re-coats when the plastic starts to show thru!) All I use this big boy for is course grit!
