connrock, I got your PM and I really appreciate the offer. She spent the night with a friend last night so I didn't get a chance to talk to her yet.
I'll share with her what I've learned and she will be OK. I was probably a little over-dramatic yesterday - mostly just frustrated with manufacturers setting wrong expectations.
I think she will be OK and we will still enjoy the process. I like the idea that Lee shared, that once things get flowing you can start producing every week. I think for her (and me) learning to do this the right way will bring a greater reward than just powering through just to get done.
Thanks for your time invested in helping us newer folks along the path. It really means a lot that folks show concern like this for others and as I keep saying I hope that I get to the point where I can be helpful too.
Very sincere thanks
John

Connrock, I really appreciate all the help you're giving us rookies. I read your explanations on the "snot" thread and found them very informative too.

For quite some time I "backed off' from posting much ,,,due to leg problems and in thinking I would let the "new" old timers carry the load. Well my legs are MUCH better now and I just can't help myself from trying to help.
I think about this web site a LOT and how it has over 4000 people who(for the most part) will pour their hearts out trying to help others.
I only hope and pray that the rest of the worlds people would some day do the same for each other.
I doubt VERY seriously that when Mark created this site for us that he had ANY idea of how it would blossom into what it is today and just how many wonderful people it would bring together , from all over the world,,to enjoy each others company and to help one another.
I am only one VERY small part of a HUGE group of "helpers and givers"!

Hi connrock, I really appreciate what you've said, and that you are back and that you enjoy helping out. I think that the way to have the kind of world where more people share and give and care and all that, is for each of us to find ways to share and give and care in whatever ways we can.
So kudos to you, all of you, who give time, knowledge, and all sorts of other good things to this place.
I am new to lapidary stuff and probably seem like a joke on here to you longer-timers, but there are other areas of my life where I am the expert and can help others along - and I do that, and hope to become someone who can do that here as well.
Let us all give as best we can and I'll raise a pint or 6 to connrock's prayer for the rest of the world to do the same.

I have been collecting rocks for many years, but just got around to tumbling a year ago. I started out with a Lortane 33b and change stages every 7-8 days and was happy with the results. I now change every 10-14 days. I still like the results I am getting. I am not seeking perfection and like the rocks to have some of the original characteristics. Your girl will be very happy with the results of changing every 7-10 days as I usually give some to kids I meet. I tell them that it is "pirates treasure" straight from Blackbeard himself. One day, I gave this 8 or 9 yr old boy one on my "pirates treasure" and he said " Aww, pirates are all dead", and I told his that pirates never die, they just sail into the sunset and come back in the imaginations of children and old teachers and park rangers. Good luck with your tumbles
