Given an old homemade two 12 lb barrel tumbler. Motor not working, barrel guides not working.
Get new motor. Frame is different. Design and build motor mount. Can't get old pulley off - unusually small size. Find right size pulley at Grangers. Barrel guide rubbing. Grind away metal. Barrel guide still rubbing. Grind away metal. Barrel guide still rubbing. Grind away metal. Barrel guide still rubbing. Grind away metal. Barrel guide no longer rubbing. Barrel guide no longer holds barrel in place. Design and build barrel guide.
Load with rocks and start rolling rocks.

Hey Steve, for barrel guides you might want to take a look at the little nylon wheels they use on the bottom of sliding doors. Don

You can buy nylon washers in the pull out hardware drawers in any hardware store also.

I use the Lortone barrels, with the slotted knurled nut. I was able to figure out how to use the Lortone barrel guide. On my other homemade tumbler, I wanted to be able to run 2 six lb, back to back - on one side I used a Lortone barrel guide, on the other side I used a nylon wheel. Works great. Although I like to put a notecard under the washer on which I keep a record of the run. This doesn't work with the nylon wheel.

Steve, having been raised by a mechanic and being one myself I learned to take things down to the bare bones and detail everything. I`m kind of anal about it I guess. Your story is all to familiar. As sure as I don`t give speciall attention to something it comes back to bite me in the ass. I have used small casters from rolling cabinets on the ends of tumbler barrels for stops. Trick is to design it right and the build is easy. Good luck, I`m working on a design now for a different style of vibrating tumbler. Gotta do a few experiments before I can nail down a design.
