I recently purchase a few different types of jade from Jade West and thought i would post some pics of them. I bought three pieces that come from three different mines as well as one slab that they didn't know which site it came from. I took shots with lighting from the front and the side or back to give an idea of light penetration and i tried to wet them although the Kutchko piece didn't want to stay wet.
First piece is Polar Jade. It has great translucence and it almost seems to glow from within when in sunlight.
Next piece is from the Kutchko mine and is slightly darker and has a little bit of muddy color in some of the flaws. There is also some really nice colored stuff in it so i will have to be creative when i decide to work it and should be able to get some really nice pieces out of it. This stuff didn't want to stay wet almost as if it had some wax or something on it, but even after cleaning and wiping it down it seemed to shed the water so it was tough to get a good shot.
Next piece is a larger slab from the Ogden mountain mine. It has great swirls and patterns in it and has the natural rind all the way around it. I think i will just try to polish the whole thing in one piece as it is and hang it in my front window where it will be in the sun everyday.
The next two pieces are from the slab that they didn't know its origin. It is from one of the three previously mentioned mines but i am not sure which one. I have cut two rough shapes from it today and hope to finish them in the next little while. First is a knife and the second is goin to be a Star Wars Republic insignia pendant. (Yes, .... I am a Star Wars geek, )
I really like how each piece has such a different look than the others and each type has its own beauty. I really hope i have enough time in the next few days to work on finishing some of these pieces and will be sure to post pics when i do. Hope you like these pics and if anyone else has any pics of other jades from BC or other places feel free tp post them here too so we can see them and compare the differences.
