Roy:
Our Shannon (Weeshan) has put together a very good tutorial on doublets, and triplets in the Creating cabochons section. Optical crystal makes the best cap, but clear glass works although a wee bit softer than the crystal.

I sell a lot of 330 Epoxy to people making doublets but the other day someone was looking for a glue that cures with UV. Said you can work all the bubbles out without it setting up. Then put it under a UV lamp or take outside in the sunshine to cure/set up. I can't remember the brand name though. I remember all the kids in my 4th grade class though. Getting old is a lot of fun. What were we talking about?

I've used the clear portions of Montana moss agates cut very thin with good results. At the time I had access to a vacuum chamber, and used 330 epoxy. The vacuum chamber removed all of the air bubbles, and really pulled the clear caps down tight. I always capped my material before preforming. Be sure to lap the joining surfaces flat before joining them. Allow at least 24 hours for the epoxy to cure before cutting or grinding. Here's a link to the tute on doublets and tripplets. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=ccabs&action=display&thread=32781
