By the way; the German sample is labeled as coming from Harz. Harz is the German word for tree-sap. Bernstein for Amber, Harz for Tree-sap

Hi, very neat:). Now how can you tell that's amber and not opal? Opals in matrix often look exactly like some of your pieces, especially the very last picture.
Mexican fire opal matrix is exactly that color and the opals sit in the rock exactly that way. I know amber is a bit softer.. do you do a scratch test to determine that what you have is a Czech amber and not the Mexican opal that anyone who looks at the piece would think it was??
