This piece came to me from an estate purchase. It's from the Sweet Home petrified forest here in Oregon. The wood decay allowed for blue agate to fill the larger rot pockets in a fairly symmetric double hearted round. I haven't attempted to identify the species on this one yet, but the aesthetics are pretty awesome.

It's a huge petrified forest - at least 100 square miles. Some areas are logs, some are sandy, many are bland (as you note) and some are just chunks but very colorful. The very best pieces are actually chatoyant gem grade agate with rich gold, black, blue, white and cream colors! It all depends on where you dig.
