I decided to make a new cab machine after seeing some of the other ones on this forum. I have to make the belt guard for the motor and make a guard for the leather wheel so it won't sling stuff all over. I ordered all new 8" wheels except for the 14,000 grit nova wheel which is a 6" (I bought this wheel before I started this project) it is still new but I had it so I thought I would use it. I might change it if I nick my knuckle on the next wheel to many times and replace it with a 8"wheel. If I can get this computer to upload the photos I just took I will post. I made the wheel irrigater from 1/2" schedule 40 pipe and drilled and tapped it for the valves, there is a humidifier orfice on each one and it sprays each wheel I think I have about the right amount of water going now. I need to find a clear bucket for the supply side, there is a statuary pump in the bucket for pressure to the supply, it likes warmer water and so do I, makes it a lot more comfortable when you cab. Hope you like it I have cabbed a couple of pieces and so far I love it I can't believe I worked so long with poor machines. Warren

I went with 3 hard wheels. 80, 220, 800, then I got some Eastwind wheels from Kingsley North. 600, 1,200, 3,000, 8,000, and I had on hand the 14,000 Nova wheel only it is 6" all the rest are 8". Then I had a 8" expando wheel on hand so I got a leather belt for it and have charged it with 50,000 diamond paste. I get lots of clean water on the wheels so they cut fast. I have cabbed a few pieces I will try and snap some pictures tomorrow and post them. IF I would ever do this again I think I would go all the way up to 50,000 grit with Nova wheels. So far I really like how it works, once you hit the 600 nova wheel it goes fast and so far I must be putting enough time in on each wheel I don't have to back track and redo a scratch on a coarser wheel. I do like the fact that I am getting clean water all the time I think that really helps. Sometime I might have to try and time myself on how long it takes to go from one end to the other.

Very impressive! Great build. Looks better than what is commercially on the market. I too use a bucket of water (warm) with a fountain pump, on my old Highland Park. The clean water does, I think make a difference.

Warren,
Awesome machine! It's great to see people making their own machines. There isn't much to it, is there?
Please explain the trays in front of the main body of the machine. Where does most of the water end up, the front trays, or the main body?

most of the water ends up in the unit itself. I have a stub piece of copper pipe with a nozzle for a humidifier in the end of it for each wheel and I get lots of water. so the trays (I had them on hand) catch what drips off of the cab and my fingers. The biggest pain was getting the pvc pipe warm enough to bend it. I did scorch a couple of pieces but not bad enough to destroy them just a little discolored. I have found out that I didn't have a big enough drain on it. I ended up drilling it out and have a 3/8" copper pipe as the drain now, it drains into a 3 gal kitty litter pail. I'll have to keep an eye on it. next project sphere machine!!!

Nice machine Warren. Since you're using diamond paster on the leather wheel, there won't be anything being thrown off the belt. You can get some 100k paste and use the left side for 50k and the right side of the belt for 100k. I split my 8x3 wheel into three, so I have 14k, 50k, 100k paste on the same wheel.
