Hello all: My wife just bought me a Lortone 33B from the Rock Shed for my 50th birthday last October. This is my first experience with tumbling, but after just a couple batches, I've already decided that I needed another tumbler dedicated to Stage 1 grinding. So I bought a second 33B a couple weeks ago (thought of a 45C or QT6, but another 33B seemed to make the most sense to maximize the flexibility of my whole set-up right now). Anyway, now after years and years of collecting rocks on vacations, trips to the beach, or really anywhere I happen to spot something interesting, I can do more with them than just have them take up space in all the cup holders of my car. My three young daughters all seem to have the bug too, because there's always a new rock in someone's school backpack or coat pocket, and specimens pop up on display around the house all the time. There's even a "museum" set-up in one of our bookcases. I think it's going to be a great hobby for me to share with them, and I'm glad to have found this board, to share with all of you too. --Phil

Thanks, everyone, for the welcoming words. John, I saw one of your (many) posts the other day asking "Hobby? Really?" and I have to say that I totally understand where you're coming from...I've only been at this for about 5 months and have to resist many urges to "go big(ger)." I'm purposefully holding myself back to a small "hobby scale" though, because I kinda want to earn the privilege of stepping up into bigger and better and more equipment. Sort of thinking of myself right now as an RTH apprentice. Plus, my wife would kill me if I build out too fast.
To everything there is a season. Tumble, tumble, tumble.

I started out that same way about the age of 51 and am now a full blown addict. Not only do you get works of art but it is very therapeutic thus being good for you. Sounds good right. We look forward to another member of the gang!
