I dont know if you've been following it but a wingnut in France killed some people in cold blood, mostly Jews, and at least 3 school children and a teacher and some soldiers, execution style. Pretty Heinous!
For some reason, they were accusing neo-nazi's in the press at first. Now most people with half a brain would be suspecting some connection to Muslim extremists or muslim extremist groups although NeoNazis are plausible suspects just not the one at the top of the list. Probably some good reason , hmmm!
Sure enough they cornered the suspect aroung 6:30AM. Wonder of wonders, he has ties to Muslims extremists. The French have been letting this wingnut run the show on his own terms and you have to wonder why. 300 cops surround his apartment but the only blood has been that of the Police. Now he says he will surrender tonight...its been 16 hours...they could have saved everyone a lot of money by storming him a long time ago...maybe they are doing the right thing by not executing him...maybe they are sympathetic to Muslim extremists

Yes I have been following this story to. I say storm the building and take no prisoners. I guess the french gov does not want to upset the muslims like Barry's version of Fort Hood. I guess they can scream alla akbar before they kill people and just be an upset employee.

The French shooting suspect was stopped by Afghan forces who tried to turn him over to the U.S. military. The U.S. directed them to hand Merah to French forces since he was a citizen of their country. He was given over the French military by the Afghans and the French military decided to return him to France.

Obama caught HELL for keeping it open. You must be kidding? That's the left's BIGGEST objection to Obama, that he has not already closed Guantanamo. It was a campaign promise he made, but what a STUPID idea. Where are those prisoners going to go?
Curt, he's kept Guantanamo OPEN despite objections from Congress.

53 percent of self-described liberal Democrats support keeping Guantanamo Bay open. Does this mean their previous virulent opposition was not based on concern for civil liberties, but was just partisan Bush-hatred? Of course not.

53% of liberals want Guantanamo to stay open? Explain this please: www.aclu.org/close-guantanamoThe page has a clock counting down how long Guantanamo has been open. They have been PRESSURING and trying to shame Obama into closing it. That he has not is one of the biggest attacks against him. Not the Republican made up emails from the Romney camp. There is HUGE outrage over Obama not closing Guantanamo, to the point where many elements of the Democratic party feel betrayed by Obama, and are selling T shirts about it: skreened.com/obamacriticism/liberals-against-obama-in-2012The Fool me once was the broken campaign promise to close Guantanamo. Liberals want Guantanamo opened? Then what's the problem? Republicans want it open too. There is no argument right? Too bad it's still RAGING against Obama.

Okay, not sure why every thread has to turn into Obama bashing...
Back to the topic at hand: I think they want him alive because he claimed to be part of a cell. They need information from him to find the other members and whether he was getting orders from someone else.
Evidently, the SOB videotaped his exploits, including grabbing a 7 year old girl by the hair as she tried to run away, and switching guns when his first jammed before shooting her in the head. You really have to be cold to do something like that. He's dead already in terms of his humanity.

What rage? I was merely pointing out that the issue became a non-issue when Obama became Kommandant of Guantanamo. Of course conservatives see a need for it, glad to have the libs on board too, albeit for shallow reasons. The Washington Post is the source of the poll that shows that 53 percent of self-identified liberal Democrats — and 67 percent of moderate or conservative Democrats — support keeping Guantanamo Bay open, even though it emerged as a symbol of the post-Sept. 11 national security policies of President George W. Bush, which many liberals bitterly opposed. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/poll-finds-broad-support-for-obamas-counterterrorism-policies/2012/02/07/gIQAFrSEyQ_story.html

Well, I'm glad it's open. I don't want those terrorists here, and then eventually released into the US. I'm glad Obama held the line against his own party on it.

On that we can agree. Aside from some ill-advised rules of engagement forced on our troops, I don't have criticism in his handling of the wars. He has done what any president would have done.

I'm surprised the French haven't surrendered yet. They're outnumbered 1 to 300.

Great one Toad! Reminds me of that old joke:
How many French men does it take to defend Paris? Nobody knows, they've never tried!

I do not understand why people of the world can not quit persecuting the Jews. Maybe Israel should just nuke that whole corner of the world. Why do the children always have to be the ones to suffer? What in the hell did they do to deserve that? I am tempted to play the god card but then the shit would really start flying. Jim

I think we, the US should split the difference with France, and send the Muslim bastard halfway to Guantanamo Bay, and tell him to get out, and swim.

In the end they killed the suspect
maybe it's illegal but otherwise I dont understand why you wouldn't pump some sleeping gas into his apartment if you want to take him alive
