I was browsing Ebay earlier and spotted something new to me so I wondered if anyone else had ever seen one of these. It is a 12lb. capacity rotary tumbler with the hex shaped drum but the drum was of clear plastic. It was made in Japan (naturally) and was built for timed runs of 0-120 mins. It must be one hell of a spin to do anything at all with that kind of time. It looked like a regular rotary type setup. Sound like anything you ever hear of?

Assuming this is not an April 1 thing, do you have a link?

i will voice an uninformed opinion that this is a novelty with no apparent improvement over opaque tumblers. I do not think it would be possible to adequately observe the condition of a tumbled rock without washing and drying
And ditto on the time

Being as how this is a timed tumble, my guess is that it would be used for dry burnishing of metal parts or castings.

Hadn't thought of non-rock tumbling. We burnish sterling in a tumbler with pins and bb's and a soapy agent

Even if it would work for rock, one run of 60/90 and it would no longer be transparent. Your local Austin club has a clear drum turning in a display case for tumbling. They have ping pong balls going around but it is interesting and part of a well done display on the tumbling process. Austin has the most educational club displays at their show of any shows we have done.
